now

Turns out a periodical format is a nice counter to indefinite procrastination, but can’t cure it entirely.

That was the opener to the previous post, which was 4 months ago now, a delay which does support the statement, even if the procrastination may not quite be indefinite.

What I’ve Been Doing

Having finally completed on our flat in July we’ve been plotting on what we’re going to do with it now that it’s ours. We’ve lived here for some time, but now the freedom to decorate and make it our own is freeing, if a little overwhelming.

What I’ve Been Playing

  • Dune: Awakening
    • A pretty good survival game, but I’ve landed in a fairly empty server where there are traces of fleeting life, but but little activity. A fairly unforgiving set of systems around fuel and entropy make all actions somewhat ephemeral too, so interest may be waning.
  • Rematch
    • A really promising multiplayer football title that really breaks away from the usual EA FC/PES machinations to great effect.
  • Grounded 2
    • Might replace Dune as the collect/build/run away screaming internally game with strong co-op. Performance is definitely not there yet though.
  • Battlefield 6 Beta
    • As someone who has long bounced of Call of Duty now, this is a sentimental return to the all-out warfare I used to lose hours to in my younger years.

Cycling

Having had my bike serviced in May I’ve been gradually building more of a habit of getting out on the road and pedalling. I’m slowly rebuilding some of the tools and accessories I seem to have misplaced since I got everything 10 years ago, but my Ribble bike from 2015 is still proving to be a reasonably reliable bicycle.

Learning

Having found myself with a bit more spare headspace with the flat purchase completed, I’m finally making a more concerted effort to learn Rust. Might never use it beyond the occasional prod, but it’s nice to dip into a bit of a different paradigm to my usual day-to-day.

Work

Turns out that world title defence has been going fairly well…

At some point I’d like to put more thoughts to the page and capture some emotions too. In brief, it’s a fairly remarkable set of circumstances and a fair privilege.
